“A Glimpse Around the World”
a global classroom photo project

Project Coordinators
Sarah Wooden-Gerome (@sarah_wg) - France
Marissa Engelhard (@espanateacher) - USA

Goals of the Project:
  • Students will use photography as a medium to reflect upon their culture, community, and environment.
  • Students will develop an understanding of cultures, communities, and environments around the world by observing and discussing photos taken by their peers.
  • Students will collaborate with other students around the globe.

Duration: November 2011 - June 2012

Grade Level/Age Group: Grades 3 to 5 (8 to 11 years old)

How the project works: Every month a theme is chosen from a selection of student or teacher suggestions. Students are then charged with the mission of taking photos around this theme. Teachers or students upload photos to the Flickr group or email photos directly to project coordinators. Photos in the collection are then compiled into a slide show which could include VoiceThread, animation, music, and more. All ideas are welcome!

The project will culminate with the creation of a printed book showcasing photos chosen by and taken by students throughout the school year.
