Project Coordinator
Tina Schmidt @MrsSchmidtB4
Edmodo Manager

Project Goals:
Students will engage in discussions with other students in the project about provided topics.
Students will learn to respect and appreciate the opinions, cultures and customs of others.
Students will be able to see the differences and similarities between themselves and others around the world.

Duration: October 2011 - April 2012

Targeted Grade Levels/Age Groups: 3 Divisons
K - 3rd Grade (ages 5-8) - Teachers of grade K & 1 may want to create just a teacher account and type in what the students say.
4th - 6th Grade (ages 9-11)
7th - 8th Grades (ages 12-14)

How This Project Works:
Students will use to communicate with the other students in this project. They will chat to learn about different aspects of each others’ lives. Each month or so a new topic will be provided to guide the chat. Sample topics might include favorite foods, holidays, school subjects, free time activities, sports, etc. Upper grades can discuss current events or topics for a certain historical event, etc. Each class who joins will be responsible for coming up with and posting, one new discussion topic at some point during the project.

How to Join:
1. Make up a school code to identify your students in the chat. For example, my school is St. Ignatius School so my code is SIS. Then fill out one of the forms below.

This project is now closed for the year.

2. Once registered, I will DM or email you the group code. Edmodo is a safe and secure social media site. Users can only access a group with a code. Students and teachers will each need to create their own individual Edmodo accounts with a username and a password. Each will then put in the code to join and get access to our Global Classroom Group. If your students already have Edmodo accounts, they can just join this new group. When filling in the “First Name” and “Last Name” on the Edmodo settings page, please have your students add their school code to their first name so we know which student is from which school in the discussions. For example, my school is St. Ignatius School so my school code is SIS. A student named John in my room would fill in JohnSIS for his first name on Edmodo. That way when John is commenting, you can look at the participants list to see that he is a student from Pennsylvania, USA. Students can edit their first names by going to “Account” on the top right of the screen and then “Settings”.

3. I will post a list of schools involved with their school code and month to create a discussion topic on this wiki page. Topics of the month will also be posted at the bottom of this page. Students can log in at any time during the month to answer the topic in a post and/or reply to a post that another student wrote. Teachers should encourage them to ask questions and engage in further discussions. All teachers will be upgraded to Co-Teachers to allow you access to moderation privileges. I will be moderating the K-3 group. Pam Thompson @Pam_thompson and Renee-Amanda Heywood @renziiwill help with 4-6 and 7-8 groups. We would like each teacher involved to help with moderation too.

Topic of the Month -
What is your favorite TV show, music group and movie?
